Herman Dates emigrated from the Netherlands to Argentina around 1884.  In association with his father-in-law Pieter Jacobus Dirks, who was Nautical Engineer and son of the renowned Justus Dirks, Herman built up a business in Buenos-Aires called "Studio Dates-Dirks".  This was dissolved at the start of the second World War.  Herman's last project was the "Club Nautico" in Buenos Aires (San Isidro) of which he was vice-President for over 20 years.

Juana Enriqueta Dates was born in Buenos-Aires.  After her marriage she lived in Ghent (Belgium).  In 1940, at the beginning of World War II, she was just divorced and had to leave the Country.  She returned to her family in Buenos Aires.
