Testament of Edmund Elvey (23 June 1633 - 6 Oct 1693)

Written on 4th October 1693, two days before Edmund's death.

In the name of God amen.
I Edmund Elvye of the parish of Newnham in
the county of Kent yeoman being weake in
body but of sound & perfect memory thanks be to
Allmighty God for the same doe make and
ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner
and forme following First I comend my Soule
into the hands of Allmighty God my Creator
trusting and assuredly bequest through the
alone meritts of my Lord & saviour Jesus Christ
to have free pardon and remission of all my
sins and my body to the earth from where it
came to be decently buryed at the discretion of
my executors hereafter named and as for such
earthly goods as it has pleased God of his infinite bounty
to bestow upon me I give devise and bequeath
the same in manner herein after expressed. Item. I
give & devise unto my loveing wife Mary Elvye
all that my two peeces or parcells of arrable land
containeing by estimation fourteen acres more or
less lyeing in the parish of Throughly in the said
County called or knowne by the names of Greenway
and Joggs Dane to have and to hold said Lands
and promissed to my said wife Mary Elvye dureing
the terme of her natural life and after her decease
I give and devise the land to my son Edmund
Elvey and his heires for ever. Item. I give and bequeath
unto my son Thomas Elvye the sum of five pounds
over and above what I have formerly given him
to be paid onto him by my executors hereafter named
within twelve months next after my decease.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my two sons Henry
Elvye & John Elvye the sum of one hundred
pounds apeece to be paid unto them at theire
several ages of one and twenty years by my
executors hereafter named. All the rest and
residue of my good & chattells & personal
estate what so ever my debts and
funeral charges being first paid and discharged
I give and bequeath unto my said wife Mary
Elvye and my said son Edmond Elvye to be
equally divided between them whome I make
my full and whole executoris and executor of this my
last will and testament. I doe hereby revoke all
the former wills and testaments by this
heretofore made and doe declare this to
be my last will & testament in wittness whereof
I the said Edmund Elvye have hereunto set
my hand & seale. This fourth day of October
Anno Dm 1693 and in the fifth year of the
Raigne of King William & Queen Mary over
England etc. Edmond Elvye his marke Signed
Sealed published & declared by the said Edmund
Elvye to be his last will & testament in the
presence of us whose names were hereunto subscribed
in the presence of the fd. Testator Mary Coalgater
her marke Katherine Kant her marke Will.
